Nova Star is a Vibrant, futuristic, durable collection by Shunelle Porcena. One could even say that her clothes could be suitable for space travel. The 6 look collection is a mass of multi-textured fabrics and a mass of hardware covered in one oxymoron (Nova=Star) and vinyl. Inspired by very popular 80’s sci-fi anime films such as Akira, Devil man and Neyo Tokyo, She began to study the characters and observed their similar development to self-actualization and self-identity while in the midst of a very sci-fi inspired world.

The silhouettes started off as collage of vintage spacesuits, puzzled together to create simple outlines with hardware galore, from leather cargo pockets, to industrial buckles, snaps and hooks, heavy duty straps and sturdy cords and complimentary tags.  The Fabrics are an array of neoprene, durable water/weather resistant fabric, polyester, mesh, and Nylon, and thick tainted vinyl.

The Muse of the collection is Nova-Star (no coincidence that it is the name of the collection), an anime character that Shunelle created as a fictional customer from the future that would wear her clothes on a regular basis. Her green hair, cool shades that devour most of her face, aloof stare, and her funky nails give her that “cool factor” that Shunelle  envisions her ideal customer to have. Nova means star in old African language. Stars were once used to predict the future or destiny of a new born. The ideal customer is the embodiment of the future. In charge Of her own life, of her own identity and her own destiny. Nova is unapologetically open and fearless to ride the currents and depths of her destiny. This why it’s so important to have her identity visible on every piece of the collection
